I want to marry Akbar!
18 02 2008This article is direct dil se… My latest crush is Akbar! Hey, I’m not kidding…Yes people – I did watch Jodhaa Akbar (1st day, night showJ). In case you have any confusions, let me tell you, I don’t want to marry Hrithik Roshan (I’m very clear on that, though he looked superb, sexy and hot in the ‘Shehenshah’’s role). I want marry Akbar, if he really had such great virtues.
Movie review – Well, this movie is a blend of reality, facts and myth but I still liked the movie. I would rate it 4/5. Ending was obvious and predictable. I don’t think any other actor in Bollywood would fit in Akbar’s role better. Best part of the movie was of course the romance! Wow! The actors shared such good chemistry on the screen that they actually seemed to be in love with each other. Beautiful Cinematography. Brilliant music, I’m still humming ‘Nagmein he nagmein hai…’, A.R. Rehman at his best.
Personally – It was more than a movie for a movie. I loved their onscreen romance. Don’t know how true the events were, but they seemed real and believable. In fact, one of the reviews says, Jodhaa was Jahangir’s wife and not Akbar’s! (That’s grosssssss). I also heard Akbar was most influenced by a brahmin lady who molded his decisions. Besides, did women have the liberty to question men or make decisions in that era? That’s subject to doubt.
I would not like to reveal the story, go watch it, at least for the Mughal grandeur, colorful sets & beautiful people. I’m totally in love with Akbar. Akbar’s character, his charisma, his strength, power and his love for Jodhaa! (My mom is wondering where on earth she would find Akbar for me in this era!).
If Akbar, the greatest of the entire Mughal dynasty was so tolerant and respected women & humanity to this great extent in that era, why can’t an ordinary man today do that? Even today, Hindus & Muslims want to see each other’s blood. The loss of life and property which Hindus and Muslims face because of their different religions is horrific. And why should BJP and other political parties go on bandh if a Hindu marries a Muslim? Why yaar! Somebody stop them!
I guess this article has taken a totally different direction. Anyway, I still want to marry Akbar!

Wow nice re
Cant wait to watch the movie now
You seem to be bowled over by Akbar’s character.. I wish you find your Akbar soon..
Nova @ Unlike Úmrao Jaan’, this movie is much better..
Lallopallo @ I really hope i find one Akbar!
Good luck in that..hey, I also wrote about JA in my blog..
Aunty! You still haven’t told me where to find soap-nut powder. Hmph.
Okay, all the reviews I’ve read till now are complete contrasts of each other. Someone says it’s excellent, someone else says it’s boring. I have no clue how it’s gonna be.
Lallopallo @ Sure, we’ll read that
Ish @ Watch and decide yourself.. After all, it’s just a movie, we don’t really have to get very critical…
But, i’m sure the movie can wait till you finish your exams
Well, it is not hard to understand why you liked the movie. But marrying Akbar would not be such a nice idea, honestly. HE had more than 100 wives. 33 Rajput princesses he married after marrying Jodha (that is if she existed). He had a separate harem as well. It is feel-good to romanticize something, but better to be grounded to the reality as well.
Vaishno,
I somehow thought this was just a movie review. So didn’t bother to read all this while.
Well as always, I would say, if you don’t like what I am saying right now, please ignore it. Otherwise here is what I have to say.
Well first of all, I was like this when I was of your age :-). But being probably oldest among your readers, its my duty to tell you, pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee……. read history carefully, without getting influenced by opinions, not even getting biased by my advice. history I mean to say, the real investigation, not the books that are given in our schools.
And yeah about Akbar, Well yeah history has revealed that, he was most tolerant amongst mughal rulers. I have no say about this, but marriage?
I left it incomplete, to start with, start with Mommad Rafi, he was old singer, probably the best singer of that era.
@ Poonam - As i wrote, is Akbar was the one who was portrayed in the movie, well, i really don’t mind marrying Akbar. But, of course, truth is he really did have more than 100 wives. BUt, you know what? He married every rajput’s daughter just to avoid war. Very political i say!
@Meethi - DOn’t take it seriously yaar! Though out of teenage, i still have few traits of a teenagers left in me! Hence, this article ! Don’t worry , i know the histroy very well..
