Aaja Nachle!
27 02 2008
Well, I thought I missed watching Madhuri on the big screen, but I don’t regret anymore! I guess the director had lost it half way, what was the purpose of the movie, why was it made? There was dance, there was Madhuri, some latle & dumkhe, and that is it!
This lady wanted to revive ‘Ájanta’ from being abolished. The state government had originally planned for a mall in the place of this dilapidated place which was once famous for art & dance.
She takes up panga with the city Mayor to do a cultural show and comes to an agreement that if a majority of the city turn ups for the show, the place will continue to be center for art & culture.
If the director was so keen on portraying art & culture, I must say he missed out on soooooooooooo many things. To mention a couple of them –
- Diya (Madhuri Dixit) comes all the way from NY, performs in one show and conveniently changes the state government’s decision and leaves her home town without any second thoughts! If she had just come to perform, the drama in the 1st half was definitely not worth it. I’m not sure if one show can change the destiny of a city? There is a flaw in logic here to revive the dying culture.
- She comes to meet her guruji but does not make a single attempt to contact her parents! (She actually elopes to the US with a firangi while her engagement was planned with some local guy there). Another flaw.
The script hasn’t done justice to any of the actors in the film. Konkona Sen’s performance was definitely not comparable with her previous work, while Kunal is underutilized. No matter how much you try and tell yourself that it is just a movie, meant only for entertainment, the movie is way too boring and annoying (That’s right, annoying).
The glamour queen returns to Bollywood after 6 years but mazaa nahi aaya Madhuri!
